The “go to your room until you are calm!” It sounds like your family uses “time in” as a moment with a parent to coregulate, which is an awesome tool for teaching emotional regulation. When a child is sent away to “calm down” without the support of a calm adult, we actually hinder their process of developing emotional regulation skills.
