Nonspeaking autism means that an autistic person doesn't use speech/ mouth words to communicate. The term “nonverbal” implies that they don't use language, but this isn't always the case. Many nonverbal autistic people understand speech and writing. Michael was diagnosed with autism, nonverbal, level 2 at 13 months old. His autism, was regressive. Regressive autism is a condition in which a child appears to develop typically but suddenly begins to lose speech and social skills. Signs and symptoms are usually seen between the ages of 15 and 30 months. The loss of these skills can be rapid or slow. It is usually followed by a lengthy period of stagnant skill progression. It’s vital that a child with regressive autism receives the proper diagnosis early on. Once diagnosed, parents and caregivers can learn the appropriate therapies needed. Keep in mind all children with autism are different, and progress will be dependent on many factors. Various studies showed around 25-30 percent of kids with regressive ASD stop speaking after they start to say some words, usually before reaching the age of two. Some children lose social development instead of language, and some lose both. Here are some early signs I’ve detected in Michael between 11-13 months old: * Avoided & didn’t like eye contact * Lost one word, daddy * Failed to respond when his name was called * Unable to point at objects or things of interest, or failure to show interest * Hand leading * Lost ability to wave hi / bye * Generally wanted to be alone * Tip Toe walking * Failed to understand or acknowledge other people’s feelings, as well as their own * Obsessive interests * Shows atypical reactions or under-sensitivity to feel of being hurt or sick * Avoided physical contact * Demonstrated little attention to safety and is greatly unaware of danger #heartbreak #sad #emotional #emotionalmoments #emotionalvideo #struggle #autism #parenting #neurodivergent #nonspeaking #signlanguage #toddler #representationmatters #cute #handsome #autismawareness #autismjourney #autismparenting #nonverbal #fyp #explorepage

“That’s normal, all kids are like that” “She said a word, Stop calling her nonverbal” So many people don’t understand Autism or what it means to be nonverbal/nonspeaking and have echolalia. So I’ll try my best to explain it in a way to help you understand. Nonverbal autism means your child may not talk at all or may talk very little, only learning a few words or phrases in their lifetime. At the age of 3, Mikko does not understand most words at all. And has only ever said about 3 words withOUT prompt. Children on the autism spectrum use echolalia because they learn language different. Typical developing children tend to begin learning language by first understanding and using single words, and then they gradually string them together to make phrases and sentences. Children on the autism spectrum often follow a different route. Their first attempts at language may be longer “chunks” of language (phrases or sentences), which they are not able to break down into smaller parts. These chunks are more grammatically complicated than they could put together themselves, and they don’t understand what the individual words mean. It’s ok not to understand something, but there are books and google to help you instead of telling a parent that they don’t know anything about their own child, as if you do. It’s dismissive and condescending. This is precisely why people are finding out they are Autistic as adults because some parents are in denial. Autism is not normal but it’s NOT wrong, it’s just different ❤️💙💛💚 {disclaimer 🚨 i didnt notice signs of Autism when she was a baby, i just noticed she was different} Autism is usually diagnosed after 18months*** #ASD #autism #nonverbal #echolalia #autismawareness #autismacceptance #neurodivergent #autistic

#stitch with @peachprc If you are neurodivergent, deal with anxiety and depression… using the June bugging cleaning method has CHANGED the game for me. Basically, you are VERY specific with what you are cleaning (for example, your bed) and you make that your anchor point. We work WITH our brain in that we know we will get distracted but we ALWAYS know we go back to that anchor point. We repeat that process until we finish the anchor point. #cleaningtips #adhd #neurodivergent #cleaningtipsandhacks #anxiety #adhdtiktok
