Maybe she just wanted to kiss me? Joking, but note the technique for redirecting ⬇️ Developed by @oceanramsey — the hand placement is crucial, but even more so extending and locking the elbow to maintain space so even if they lift you out of the water you have the leverage point to push yourself away or back. Understanding shark behavior and developing skills to be able to adapt to is important for sharing the ocean with them peacefully. While you don’t necessarily need to directly train with sharks, developing your water skills, maneuverability, agility, and extending your awareness, especially if you were spearfishing can help you to avoid an adverse interaction. Sadly I have heard of people panicking when approached by a shark, and while I know the natural instinct for most would be to swimaway as fast as you can, that kind of reaction is actually counter productive. It’s better to face the shark, even swim at it and be ready to redirect it with fins (or stiff arming it if it’s a very large shark.) Then when it moves back, you move back towards your exit slowly and deliberately while looking around for another approach. You can learn more techniques, recommendations, and tips to avoid adverse interactions for all ocean-going activities in @oceanramsey book “What You Should Know About Sharks,” or take her online course and watch the free videos on her website. Or, come enjoy a dive with a personal shark safety specialist guide @oneoceandiving and learn a lot and enjoy a dive that will change your perception and knowledge level in just 2 hours. #oahu #sharkdiving #oneoceansharkdiving #sharkkiss #sharkdiver #sharkdive #sharkattack #sharksafety #sharksafetydiver #spearfishershark #shark #sharks #SharkIDKalihi #sharkid_alyssa

I am forever fascinated with their behavior and watching these two individuals interact I immediately get a sense of competitive behavior (like sibling rivalry) compared to other individuals who often seem to be more peaceful and casual about each other’s presence, perhaps because they are more clear on their social position 🦈☯️ #oneocean #oneoceandiving #sharkidroxy #sharkidkalihi #shark #ladyshark #sharkid_jordan

So in the infrequent chance, you encounter a tiger shark in the ocean, and you are lucky enough to have one like Kalihi come to investigate you with this kind of intensity, the hand on the nose with a locked elbow needs be modified. 1st off, there are less than 30,000 tiger sharks estimated to be left in our oceans, and I have only met a couple like Kalihi that will lift you out of the water when the hand goes on to the nose. If a shark ever did this to you, the second-hand must be way under the jaw to keep it closed and push away from it because as the weight of the shark comes down, you don't want to be under the nose next to the mouth. The best situation is to just go underneath but as safety diver guiding people in water I have to keep this shark away from people with less experience🦈 Always #sharkdive under the guidance of a professional 🎥: @Ocean Ramsey @OneOceanDiving #SharkIDKalihi #sharkbehavior #learnwithme #apexpredator #competition #tigersharks #stronggirl #sharkdiving #learnaboutsharks #bekindtosharks #sharkcommunity #helpsavesharks #sharksoftiktok #learnontiktok #importantinformationforyoursafety
