I finally went through Black Midi’s catalogue, and I understand their appeal now! I still don’t care for the harsh noise-rock of shlagenheim, though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto is without a doubt the best classical music I’ve ever heard. Rachmaninoff’s use of melodic motifs is genius and somehow manages to stay engaging for the duration of the piece. (Which is my biggest gripe with most classical music) Pretty great stuff. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I enjoyed The Epic— it’s a great jazz album but it is just way too long. It’s really hard to sit through three hours of any music— let alone jazz. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was also pleasantly surprised by how good Sun Kil Moon’s first record was, given Mark Kozelek’s vocal style on Benji really annoyed me, and I thought the instrumentals were sort of thin.
