* PROGESTERONE IN OIL (PIO) SHOTS! * Progesterone is a hormone that is commonly called the “pregnancy hormone”. It’s naturally produced by a woman’s ovary after ovulation. Progesterone plays a CRITICAL role in the stages right before pregnancy and in those first few weeks. It’s NECESSARY for pregnancy because it’s what gets the uterus ready to accept and implant a fertilized egg. It also keeps the uterine lining sticky to hold onto that fertilized egg. Because I am doing IVF, my body will not produce the progesterone on its own as it does in a natural pregnancy. In a natural pregnancy, your body goes through this “checklist” of what should happen first, second, third, and so on. Because there is nothing natural about the way I am trying to get pregnant, I have to manually give this hormone to myself in order to prepare my body for my frozen embryo transfer and to hold on to that embryo once it is transferred, hopefully leading to a successful pregnancy! I do this now, in a prep stage, and would continue this until about 10 weeks pregnant. I wanted to share with you all what that looks like! Every morning at 7am, I have to administer this shot. It’s an intramuscular shot, so the needle is a bit long. Since it’s an oil, it’s very thick. I have lay on a heating pad before and after to help loosen the muscle. I also massage the area after to help move that oil and prevent lumps. The auto-injector has made these injections very easy and painless! I do not feel the needle going in. The area will get sore after doing sooooo many of these, but that’s something that I can take! Thank you for following out IVF journey ❤️❤️ #ivf #ivfjourney #ivfwarrior
