Accent walls are probably the easiest way to add extra character and interest to any space. If you aren’t experienced with DIY, they can seem out of your range to accomplish on your own. WELL GUESS WHAT MY FRIEND, I’m here to show you just how easy they really are! 😉 Here are the things you’ll need to know: . 1. Check out my Amazon Storefront for am my favorite accent wall and DIY tools ⚒️ . 2. Add your top ledge piece first. To figure out how high to take your accent wall, my rule of thumb is just over halfway to the wall. I promise it’ll draw the eye up and make the space feel taller!! (My walls are 10 ft, so I do 5.5-6 ft) . 3. Adding the quarter round on-top of your baseboard prevents overhanging boards and gives a more clean and finished look to your wall. It’s worth it . 4. Go to inchcalculator.com and use their “wainscoting calculator” to figure out what size to cut your space board. The number of panels is the actual number of boxes you want your panels to create (it’s always one less than the number of vertical boards you want to use), the stile width is the width of the board 💡 REMEMBER: lumber is not actual in measurements-my 1x2 inch boards are actually 0.75x1.75 inches. . 5. When you are cutting your boards. Always cut just to the right of your marking. Adding an accent wall in a space is the absolute easiest way to make an impact affordably. They often do not require many tools and you don’t need a ton of experience. Adding a piece of quarter-round keeps you from having to remove your baseboard, while giving your accent wall boards something to sit on and created a flush wall. They can be added to any style of baseboard . 2. Miter shears are one of my favorite diy tools. You don’t need a saw to accomplish picture frame moulding with these! . 3. Paintable outlet covers allow you to camouflage your outlets to blend seamlessly with your accent wall. I know you’re thinking, can’t I just paint the ones I have? Sure! But these cover the entire outlets giving a super cohesive look without having two blaring white outlets starring back at you 🤣🤣 . 4.
