To avoid looking at or feeling the wound of guilt/judgment again the ego will cope in an avoidant way by becoming repressed in its true emotions, desires, and pleasures and therefore unable to make genuine choices. Which may make it struggle with feeling confident to make choices or even not make them at all and always go with what others want. To overcompensate for the wound of guilt/judgment the ego will cope in an overcompensating way by becoming hyper obsessed with right and wrong, black and white, always trying to be as perfect as possible, frustrated by any mistakes, take constructive criticism poorly, and judge themselves and others harshly in an attempt to escape having to face the experience of guilt.
