Paulla McCarthy has etched her name in history as the first Black woman to own and run a water bottling company. The founder and CEO of both Youth Saving Society and YSS Water Works. Once nurse and a single mother of three, she imparted financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills to her kids. Together with her twin boys, they invested $1600 and sold water pallets during the COVID-19 pandemic. After branding themselves they leveraged their successes into a contract to supply water to 21 supermarkets. They transitioned from bulk water purchases at BJ's to establishing a water company in Poestenkill, New York, seizing the opportunity to create something meaningful on 15 acres of land. McCarthy delved into the water business and bottling industry. She gained support from family and friends to fund YSS Water Works, securing an impressive $130,000 in donations in just two days. Now, her focus is on nurturing her newly established company and its nonprofit, Youth Saving Society! In a world where resources like oxygen and water are growing scarcer and more valuable, McCarthy has received serious inquiries about her plant but remains resolute in her decision not to sell.
