The .806% winning percentage, the 7 national championships and 19 bowl game wins are all massive accomplishments, but in my opinion pale in comparison to moments like this. In the below press conference, Saban goes off about the press always wanting to vilify college players that got in trouble. He asks the room — “Where do you want them to be?! Do you want them to be on the streets? Or do you want them to graduate?” He then goes on to tell a story about Muhsin Muhammad, from his time at Michigan State. Saban continues, by saying “Every writer, the school newspaper and everyone were killing him for not kicking him off the team. Instead, I suspended him, I made him do stuff…” He pauses, and says Muhsin: - Graduated from MSU - Played 14 years in the NFL - Is the President of a Company - His daughter goes to Princeton Saban then says… “So who was right?!” This video is from 2014 but has left an indelible mark on my attitude towards leadership and the commitment you have to those you lead.
