Recently I had a bunch of bias rouleau trim left over from a project, so why not learn a new skill and make use of scrap fabric at the same time. Watch me explore traditional basket weaving fabric manipulation 🧺 #teaganjacobs #draping #sewtok #sewing #sewingtiktok #fashiondesigner

No leaves were created in the making of this smocking swatch 🥲. I tried my hand at leaf smocking this beautiful green satin fabric, and I think I accidentally taught myself how to lattice smock, I have no idea how this happened but a happy mistake nonetheless. Don’t ask for a sewing tutorial 🫢🍃 #teaganjacobs #fashiontiktok #smocking #sewtok #sewing

Let’s do a zippy 2 hour half-drape for pattern testing and visualising a mesh tulle dress. Unlike most fashion designers I don’t really do design sketches. They’re more scribbles. So to test if I really like a design I’ll sometimes do a quick half drape on the dressform. Typically this would be one side- front and back. But sometimes I like to do just the front of the garment so I can get a better visual of what the garment will be if I choose to complete it. Usually if I’m liking what I’m seeing I can use these fabric pieces to create a pattern, and go from there. This process typically requires using a fabric that is similar, if not the same, as the final fabric, in order to test how the weight of the fabric drapes, falls and gathers. Usually, you’d sacrifice a small amount of fabric because some pieces you have to cut, for example here I cut some fabric but in total was only about 40cm or so, but for the most part majority of the fabric can be unpinned and used again. #teaganjacobs #fashiontiktok #tulledress #girlygirloutfits #butterflydress

Let’s take a moment to appreciate all the work that is never noticed or seen on a garment. And for a reason- because here I am doing an invisible stitch/ladder stitch, which technically shouldn’t be seen on the arm cuff of a blouse. It’s the invisible work of sewing. There are so many things that go into making clothes, and intricate work like hand sewing just isn’t practiced in ready to wear garments today. In the world of fast fashion, steps like this are often skipped for simpler and more machine-driven garment making practices. Which is fine- there is just something special about hand sewing, and keeping the practice alive. #teaganjacobs #fashiontiktok #supportsmallbusiness #sewing #australianmade #sewtok #sewingtiktok #handsewing
