Every year since my mother passed, my TV mom has baked me cookies on my birthday. It doesn’t matter that I’m now older than she was when we first worked together, or that I’ve moved to Texas. She bakes them, and finds me, and does it from the bottom of her heart - and it always warms mine. When I was 15, I first told my mom I wanted to audition professionally. She didn’t hold me back. She took me to NYC, and she walked me through it. So when the opportunity to do #WeAreFamilyFox came up and my 13 year-old lit up like a carbon copy of me at that age… I let her put herself on tape. I got her some voice lessons. And I walked her through it. She’d never sung in front of people before. So proud of my baby girl. And I call her that because, when I watched her tonight, all I could see was the newborn in the bassinet who I could not stop looking at in awe. What if “self-discipline”… was really just self-love trying to look tough? Been doing a deep dive on the tone of my self-talk lately… and was shocked by how negative so much of it was. And as easy as it is to justify the negativity with “good” outcomes… What if we recognized that negative self-talk… was just us trying our best to love ourselves? And what if we said “thank you” to that taskmaster in the middle, relieved them of their duties… and listened for that quiet voice of self-love to take the floor more often?
