We acknowledge that in the U.S., there are caring, responsible breeders who, unlike the puppy mills, are motivated by love and improvement of the breed rather than profit. At present, however, nearly 2,000 dogs and cats die in our nation’s shelters each and every day for no other reason than that they don’t have a safe place to call home. We prefer that people adopt a pet rather than acquire an animal from any pet breeding situation.
