Once removed from the umbilical cord, these babies experience heavy withdrawal from the substance their mom was using during their pregnancy. This withdrawal is called Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, which is an array of symptoms such as tremors, persistent startle, head thrashing, gut and intestinal stress, and so many others.
