Did a SAR “egg hunt” (ethically sourced human blood). Both dogs started with no indication at all. Both ended with a down for indication. Merlin is actually way better at this and way more precise. Nys says “you get within 12 inches for an indication”. Nys will be better for hasty search and finding runaways. Merlin will be geared to tracking, articles, and recovery. Nys is by far the smartest dog I’ve ever seen and she is my heart dog; but Merlin has one hell of a skillset when it comes to SAR. I think Nyssa’s brain gets in her way. Once again, Nys and I got beat up by the way wind plays on scent. BUT once again, we did end up finding our subjects! We passed a TON of people and had to weave through some crowds on the trail; but nys didnt perk up until we found our peeps! It’s not the bragging rights, the ego, the power trip, or the trophies. It’s knowing that once we are done training? We will bring you home. We will cross hell and back to find you.
