Coolest thing I’ve seen in my entire life…to this day even after all the amazing wildlife I’ve encounter this is my favorite memory. On this date 5 years ago I found them. Spring is a great time to hike to see wildlife! Backstory: I was walking through the woods to get to a fishing spot and as I was crouching/ moving under this fallen tree passing through, the mother coyote darted out and snarled at me and then took off. (Mother coyotes and other mammals have been know to flee the scene of a den to make the threat/ predator follow them away from the site in an act of sacrifice to ensure the babies are not discovered and ultimately harmed). Once the mother coyote took off I was curious as to why she was in a tree. I crawled inside to investigate and found the pups. After find the pups and looking around the tree I found another puppy that was dead on the ground. Unfortunately this one most likely fell out and froze without the mothers warmth at night. After this new find I was excited to go back for the next few weeks to photograph and document their early stages of life from a far. When I went back the next day they were all gone… the mother had moved the pups to a new den often known as a “rendezvous site” that most canine mammals have incase their main den site is discovered by a predator. I have gone back to this site ever year in hopes that the mother re-uses this site for her new pups but she has not. In the following years I did discover a fox den with kits that was documented and posted to my page as well as the full video description of the coyote story if you’d like to watch that. What would you do if you found these wild pups?? -take one home? -call the DEC? -leave them alone? -get rid of them?(many farmers/hunters do not like coyotes) -other?? 🐾 🐾 🐾 #coyote #puppies #wildlife #thegreatoutdoors #nature #animals #babyanimals #hiking #hunting #fishing
