Spend a minute with elephants. Me and Kanoon hanging out and loving on each other at The Chai Lai Orchid. Chai Lai supports a herd of elephants that is composed of animals who have been taken out of terrible situations and given an opportunity at a better life. Kanoon was an elephant riding-circus elephant. Forced to carry people all day. Now she roamed free and enjoyed her days. And she kind of became my girlfriend. @Chai Lai Orchid #fyp #elephants #wildlifelover #🐘 #wildlife #meditation #aminutewithelephants #elephantsoftiktok #elephants #andrewmalcolmfilms

During a revent translocation at Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa, i was priviledged to monitor this little guy. Making sure elephants breathe between 4 and 6 breaths per minute, when under sedation, is imperative for keeping these amazing animals safe during these operations. Now he’s happy and healthy at his new home, and will soon be spreading his important genetics. #fyp #elephants #wildlifelover #wildlifeconservation #interesting

When you’re working with wildlife, sometimes you can find yourself in a different kind of splash zone. In this instance, a mother elephant cow extricates some water from her trunk as a deterrent to would be nuisances (aka me) as we filmed them being translocated from the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa, to the Babanango Game Reserve, as a part of a groundbreaking de-population initiative. In this instance the team at Conservation Solutions facilitated the move, in partnership with DCM Surfaces, South African National Parks, WeWild Africa, the Wildlife Emergency Fund, and the Aspinall Foundation. The animals were given a powerful relaxation tranquilizer, assuring their safety during their voyage and are now happily thriving in their new home of Babanango. These moves are critical to the survival of animals in overpopulated reserves, the preservation of the ecology, and to transporting important genetic variation across the continent. With experts like these, Africa’s wildlife stands a chance at survival. And we can all hope for a better future. But it does mean occasionally a wet cameraman or two 😂 For more, visit our page, and those of the conservationists, follow and discover how you can help save these amazing animals. #🐘 #conservation #wildlifeconservation #wildlife #elephant #southafrica #fyp

This video is SO MUCH MORE than meets the eye. This video comes to us from Addo Elephant National Park, and the Bellevue Forest Reserve, in South Africa. The group of elephants you see here have had an AMAZING story! In August of 2023 a daring elephant translocation took place in Addo Elephant National Park (see the story of the operation in reels on my page). This group of nine elephants were the FIRST family group to EVER be moved outside of the park! Currently Addo has an overpopulation problem. Where there is currently capacity for 400 elephants, there are over 700 elephants in the park! This has HUGE consequences for all the animals on the reserve, as having too many elephants in a small area can quickly destroy vegetation and natural resources that are vital to keeping the ecosystem in balance. SO, what’s a conservationist to do? MOVE THEM! This is the best way to protect elephants and their habitats, as other methods can be either destabilizing or fatal. A translocation initiative was undertaken by some incredible partners, including CONSERVATION SOLUTIONS (@conservationsolutions) The WILDLIFE EMERGENCY FUND (@wildlifeemergencyfund) WeWild Africa (@wewildafrica) SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL PARKS (@sanparksaenp) Dr. Joel Alvez (@the_conservation_vet) Dr. Annie of Grahamstown Vets (@wild_vet_annie) (@grahamstownvetclinic) And others! Translocations are essential for the stability of Africa’s fragile ecosystem, in what’s called a “Closed System”, in other words, an area where a majority of wildlife area are fenced. This means animals are much better protected from poachers, but cannot move across huge distances on their own. The methods that have been developed over the years to translocate animals are safe and effective! These beautiful lovelies were translocated successfully in their family groups, as you can clearly see! They have now settled into their new home, with bonds as strong as ever, and protected by the incredible team at Bellevue (@bellevueforestreserve) where they will live happy lives for decades to come! This initiative is ongoing, so keep looking out for more updates and make sure to follow these wildlife heroes!#reels #wildlife #fyp #elephants #elephantlover
