We tried chasing out with a little bit of repellent but that didn't work because it was an established hive. What was unusual is that the roof section was connected with the wall from inside so I had to get into the attic space and crawl my way to that wall and cut it open to remove all the bees. Once the bees were all removed I had to take the box to the top of the roof and leave it as close as possible to the original entry point so that the bees could find the box and relocate themselves to it.
