The Megalodon was the biggest shark that ever lived, but people still wonder if it could be hiding out in the depths of the ocean somewhere. Even though the ocean covers 70% of Earth's surface and is still largely unexplored, the Megalodon went extinct about 3 million years ago, as that's when it disappeared from the fossil record. Megalodons preferred swimming in warmer waters and required lots of large prey to feed on, so it's theorized that when the climate cooled, they lost habitat and significant food resources leading to their extinction.

OceanXplorer is currently docked in📍Singapore and we've been busy with immersive educational tours for local educators and students. We're thrilled to open up our vessel and have people explore our labs, submersibles, and ROV to learn more about how we research and explore the ocean. We'll also be launching a hybrid version of our Young Explorers Program, so keep an eye on our socials to learn more about that. #oceaneducation #marinescience #oceanresearch #marinevessel #oceanxplorer #singapore

Literally meaning “living together”, symbiosis refers to close interactions between two species over an extended time period. Clownfish and anemones are a commonly known pair. Because of their venom immunity, clownfish can safely shelter among anemone tentacles, and keep their anemone homes clean in return. #fishtok #clownfish #indonesia #stepbrothers #bestfriends #nemo #anemone #underwaterfootage #scubadiving #coralreef

A rare bioluminescent deep-sea squid swam with our ROV in the Seychelles. This species has only been seen in it’s natural habitat a handful of times before, so we were ecstatic to capture this footage. This Dana octopus squid is not only very big, but it has the largest photophores of any bioluminescent creature on earth. You can see it flashing them at us in this video. 📍 Seychelles Want more squid content?
