If you’re working hard to shallow the club adding hand depth is one of the easiest ways to do so in my opinion. Its is not required and there are many great players with limited depth who still shallow well but these match ups can become a little more complicated. To get the hands more behind you at the top of the swing closing the set up is a small adjustment that can help, this doesn’t have to be excessive but closing off 1-2” (especially for players with limited mobility) it can help encourage this. If you do go down to road or adding hand depth note that this should typically be done by improving rotation, not just ripping the arms inside and behind you. There’s a time and place to work on getting the arms more behind you but for a large majority of players I see who lack depth the rotation is the main issue. . Finally wrapping up the uneven lies series, was a little under the weather last week and played a little catch up. With these lies I find the biggest factors are aligning your shoulders with the slope and taking enough club. Get those shoulders angled with the slope to help with solid contact and with these shots going higher and shorter take one extra club. . Looking to score better? One of the biggest things you can do is avoid wasted shots on the greens with 3 and 4 putts. These are two tips that I recommend you use to avoid the big numbers: 1: Walk the length of the putt. Reading it from behind to get the break is key but I also like to walk the putt off and break it into pieces. Reading a 50 footer can be tricky but typically I will break it into two or three sections. If I feel section one is uphill breaking slightly left but section two is down hill breaks slight right I know I can play close to a flat, straight putt. If one section is more severe you can decide which way you need to favor. 2: Take a few practice strokes looking at the hole. This is not to practice your technique but more so to help with speed. Most sports are reactionary, when shooting a basketball or throwing a football you don’t think about how far it needs to go. You see the target and react. By looking at the hole this can help the brain and body sync up a little bit better to judge the speed. I recently worked on a player on this who was having upwards of 45+ putts a round. After working on this in a lesson putts have dropped to the low to mid 30s with career lows back to back weekends, I can tell you these work!
