We enjoyed a classroom visit today for a falconry & raptor encounter with a school! We met a falcon, hawk, vulture, and two owls during the visit helping the students build on their education on raptors. Wednesday the Eurasian eagle owl enjoying some free flights once we got home later in the day. #owls #education #birdsofprey

Trust is a huge part of working with a falconry bird. Even before we free fly and hunt together we have to gain & form that trust. This can help us navigate tricky situations that will come up in the field. Baba Cher is a golden eagle that responds to a lot of situations with fear and not aggression. One fear was/is being on the ground around peope like me. To hunt together she must trust me on the ground. In the field she will be on the ground at some point after a miss or successful flight on prey like a jackrabbit and i want her to be comfortable with me near her. We have been working on just coming to the ground getting on the glove for food. A simple act that took a while to get to. Trust that i won’t do anything scary, like grab her…. Smell steps in the right direction. this is very non-traditional eagle training in falconry. But each falconry bird one works with will show different obasctles in their training within falconry. Golden eagle held with appropriate falconry class and permits. She is high in weight but calling to me for food in the video. Big adult baby 😂
