Though they may appear similar is size and body shape when it comes to behavior and considerations for interactions a nurse shark is not the same as even a lemon shark. A bull shark is not the same as a galapagos, a white shark is not the same as a Mako, etc etc. Each species and each individual is unique. While generalization of a species is possible for grasping the basics of behavior and how it may be calculated for interactions, it comes down to geo-specific environmental conditions and social dynamics. How a shark utilizes the bathymetry, the water column, fauna, current systems, environmental conditions especially water clarity, and even the time of day and proximity to prey items may have an affect on their behavior when it comes to shark-human interactions. Social dynamics and competitive behavior can change the intensity and interest level of an individual in an instant. Sharks can and do learn, which is super fascinating to observe and experience BTW, and so can we. I would encourage people to learn generally about behavior of a species they want to go dive with and then get into specifics with a local guide. I recommend @OneOceanDiving for larger predatory species in Hawaii or @Pelagicdiversfuvahmulah for Tiger sharks in the Maldives. In my 1st book “What You Should Know About Sharks” I generalize at first, covering the most important information about the behavior of large predatory species, specifically about considerations for shark-human interactions. While I could go on writing about each species for years each, I wanted to trim it down to something useful for any ocean-goer making it easier to understand and to utilize on a global scale. 🦈 What is your favorite shark species and which species would you like to learn more about? 🦈 If you’re looking for more info and visuals that show the behaviors and interaction techniques described check out my online course (link on website: OceanRamsey.Org) 🦈 I put these educational resources together because coexistence is key for conservation and safety #sharks #sharkbehavior #education #sharkdiving #sharkid_alyssa

“I love teaching people about sharks and ways in which they can better enjoy time with them more safely. Connection leads to caring, and that, most likely, leads to support for conservation. 📹 @juansharks @OneOceanDiving #oneoceandiving #sharkdive #divewithsharks #sharkeducation #countershading #sharkfacts #marinewildlife #sharkconservation #marineconservation #helpsavesharks #stopsharkfinning #oneoceaneducation #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanconservation #oneoceanglobal #sharkid_alyssa

Shark Behavior and Human Interactions Drone Series ⚡️Part 1️⃣ @juansharks used a drone to film more shark-human safety and interaction video’s for me. This first one demonstrates why its not a good idea to splash a lot while swimming, and also why not to swim away from a shark, and what a sharks approach towards a seemingly injured/thrashing animal might be. Here, you can see the shark has chosen to approach me from behind, and I also demonstrate my self-developed redirection technique to redirect this tiger shark away from me. Scroll back in my feed for more videos on this or enjoy my online course video series to learn more or check out my book “What You Should Know About Sharks” available from @OneOceanDiving shop 👉❤️🦈 Follow for more as I attempt to jam-pack more info into these drone-angle posts for shark-human interactions, behavior, and safety. Aloha and best wishes to you and yours ❤️🌊 Follow @juansharks for PART 2‼️ #honolulu #waikiki #oneoceansharkdiving #SharkDivingOahu #SharkSnorkelingHawaii #SharkEncountersOahu #SwimmingWithSharksOahu #SharkAdventuresOahu #oahusharktours #SharkCageDivingOahu #sharkencountershawaii #SharkWatchingOahu #OahuSharkSightings #SharkID_Alyssa

Far too many sharks and marine life are entangled in marine debris and the average number of entangled marine animals around the world seems to be increasing… #Bycatch is a leading cause of marine life deaths in general with around 9-12 species being caught per 1 target species in the commercial fishing industry. These entangled sharks and marine animals are killed “accidentally” every single day!! If the sharks or other species are not killed, they usually suffer trauma, stress and high cortisol levels, broken jaws, or hooks and lines that can cause irritation and scarring that disrupts their countershading and hunting abilities. We see so many sharks with lines at our dive site here in Hawai’i every day; even with the protection from legislation making it illegal to catch a shark. We try our best to always cut lines short if we see them and remove anything we can from these amazing and resilient apex predators. 💙 Please consider limiting your seafood consumption, vote for environmental legislation, stop your single use plastic use, and be a voice and advocate for sharks! If you wish to do more to help sharks, come on a dive with @OneOceanDiving to learn more Disclaimer: these are professional shark safety divers and marine biologists so please do not attempt. Lots of rapid behavior analysis, game plan, adaptation, & teaming up for safety, go into trying to save a shark from fishing line. 🧜🏽♀️ @oceanramsey 🧜♂️ @juansharks 🛥️ @oneoceandiving #savesharks #helpsavesharks #helpus #plasticpollution #bycatch #sharkfishing #sharkid_alyssa
