Just another dinner with the fam. We made kimchi jjim (Braised kimchi with pork) which is one of our go to because it just warms your soul and super easy to make. Kimchi jjim is similar to kimchi jjigae but less broth and slightly different seasonings. Also, whole uncut kimchi is used and you tear the kimchi and wrap the meat and/or rice with it. Dad's been obssessed with apples this year, eating at least two a day so we went to pick fresh apples. Even though my dad grew up in daegu, korea which is the home of best apples in Korea. His family didn't own an orchard so he actually never picked apples. Mom who grew up in Seoul (the largest city in Korea( of cousre never had a chance to pick apples either. So this was a new and fun experience for them. It was also their first time trying apple cider donuts and they loved them. Korean Mocha Cream Bread is mom's favorite snack EVER. Mom and dad try to get this any opportunity they have when they go to Hmart which has Tous Les Jours (Korean bakery) within the store. The bread is so soft and pillowy and the outer layer has a delicious crust, filled with light coffee cream. Fire grilled dried squid brings all the good family memories because we used to get some every time we stop at a service area on a roadtrip. It's one of the most loved snacks in Korea. Half dried ones are my favorite because you can make it nice and crispy outside but soft inside. Drying deepens the umami flavor so it tastes quite different from fresh squid. It's delicious but also pretty healthy as it's full of protein and no sugar.
