Part 1 - ADHD & The menstrual cycle. So, during this phase, your hormones are gonna be at the lowest level which are, therefore mean the production of neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, serotonin, notadrenaline are also going to be at their lowest levels. This explains why your symptoms are more pronounced during your period but it also explains why your medication doesn’t work as well. The more you neurotransmitters you have available the more efficacious your medication will be. Therefore if you’re not producing enough these neurotransmitters, then you will not feel the benefits of ADHD medication which is what most women experience.
