For one month every year, the suburb of Lakemba lights up like no other place in Sydney. It's of course for the month of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer and self reflection which sees people of the Muslim faith abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset every single day. Yes, even water. A big part of Ramadan is coming together at night to break fast, and Lakemba's night markets were born a couple of years back as a way for the community to come together and share food. It's still going strong and, as a non-Muslim I'm very grateful to join the festivities too. What we ordered: Black garlic sourdough with truffle butter $5.50 ✅✅ Scallops and Bird's nest dish now off menu but not necessary imo Double baked Gruyère soufflé $28 ✅✅ Girasoli with crab, prawn and lemon butter $44 ✅✅ Slow-roasted lamb shoulder $48 ✅ 350g scotch fillet Rangers Valley NSW $58 ✅✅ (great value!) Crispy baked potatoes $16 ✅✅ Green leaf salad $16 Waiting for Christmas dessert $20 Lovely spot for a date night or catch up with friends, and possibly the nicest restaurant in Parramatta!
