SHOUT-OUT THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY OF SYDNEY Thank you for being welcoming of people from all cultures to join you for an evening of wonderful food in Lakemba and all around South West Sydney! For one month every year, the suburb of Lakemba lights up like no other place in Sydney. It's of course for the month of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer and self reflection which sees people of the Muslim faith abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset every single day. Yes, even water. A big part of Ramadan is coming together at night to break fast, and Lakemba's night markets were born a couple of years back as a way for the community to come together and share food. It's still going strong and, as a non-Muslim I'm very grateful to join the festivities too.
