The holidays are hard for a lot of people. Some are dealing with a past of abusive families, loss, sickness, loneliness, grief, hunger, etc… all of which make Christmas one long month of painful memories. While this season is a beautiful time of giving, celebrating, and joy, it’s ok if that’s not where your heart currently resides. The true reason of this holiday is that we are celebrating the Savior of the world and the beginning of the gift of full joy and peace through salvation. Maybe that’s something you haven’t yet experienced. If so, God only requires us to come exactly as we are; scars, mistakes, memories, hurts and all. He loves you in the middle of it all, and He wants to bring you peace right here and now. That’s why I painted this nativity scene. Christ’s birth points us to the plan of salvation and his deep love for us on the cross. It’s truth and light overshadows every sin and hurt that our broken hearts hold onto.
