The holidays are hard for a lot of people. Some are dealing with a past of abusive families, loss, sickness, loneliness, grief, hunger, etc… all of which make Christmas one long month of painful memories. While this season is a beautiful time of giving, celebrating, and joy, it’s ok if that’s not where your heart currently resides. The true reason of this holiday is that we are celebrating the Savior of the world and the beginning of the gift of full joy and peace through salvation. Maybe that’s something you haven’t yet experienced. If so, God only requires us to come exactly as we are; scars, mistakes, memories, hurts and all. He loves you in the middle of it all, and He wants to bring you peace right here and now. That’s why I painted this nativity scene. Christ’s birth points us to the plan of salvation and his deep love for us on the cross. It’s truth and light overshadows every sin and hurt that our broken hearts hold onto. I honestly can’t thank God enough for the blessings He has given me. It brings me to tears every time I think of them. But I know not everyone is feeling the joy this holiday season. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one this year, money is tight, you feel anxious or depressed, someone you love is sick… I don’t know how you’re hurting. God begins right there in that pain though. He’s holding you through it, every tear is counted, every sleepless night is watched, and every hurt is known; YOU are known by Him in your pain. And that pain may not end tonight, next week, this year, but there is a purpose in it. God never abandons his children half way through the process. He will cry with you, hold you, but most importantly He will lead you through it.
