Mala was sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp and from there to Bergen-Belsen where she nearly died of Typhus. After the war she was sent to Sweden where she spent two years before receiving a letter from her brother Ben, who she didn’t know had survived. Mala’s brother Ben Helfgott z”l was a lifelong Holocaust educator as well as Olympian (one of two Holocaust survivors to be competing in Olympics) and a weightlifter.
