How do we tell if Hallie is under stimulated and in need to sensory regulation… 👇🏼 It can all depend, on the day, what’s happened that day, what’s coming next…. But We really have to get in tune with her and work out her behaviours to know if she is seeking stimulation or needing a break from sensory stimulation. I’ll do another videos soon of how we help when she is over stimulated. Hallie is both sensory seeking and sensory avoiding in most areas and she pretty much seems to have a tipping point where we go from one extreme to another. So we will have to be careful that we don’t give Hallie to much sensory seeking time because she can go the other way and get overwhelmed then shutdown. . When Hallie is under stimulated. This is often on the days when we have stayed at home. 👉🏼 She will increase her stimming, 👉🏼 She will head bang on the sofa. 👉🏼 She will be easily irritable 👉🏼 Make whining noises. High pitch squeals 👉🏼 She will eat more !!! 👉🏼 Drink excessively 👉🏼 Overall she be very difficult to look after 👉🏼 She will cry a lot 👉🏼 Be more heavy handed with things including hitting and throwing. 👉🏼 Spitting and purposely dribbling to make her clothes wet (but then this causes overwhelm as she is sensitive to wet clothes on skin) 👉🏼 chew non food item… bite holes in her dummies. 👉🏼teeth grinds There really is so many …… 🙌🏼 This is when I know we need to get up and get moving. Fresh air is always amazing for Hallie. But sometimes she’s to far gone to be able to manage a transition to outside. So swinging her in a blanket is our go to at the moment as hallie loves it. It makes her happy regulates her and puts her in a better mood after. At the moment she won’t use her sensory swing and for some reason she is putting her trust in me and daddy. 🤷🏼♀️ which she doesn’t always. Add any behaviours you see in your children or you feel as an adult when you are seeking sensory stimulation to feel regulated. I’m sure we can all help each other, because I’m sure we can all agree it’s like being a detective with sensory children. #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensorykids #sensorytherapy #sensoryregulation #autism
