Just let them skip ❤️ one thing I love about autistic people. Is how happy they look when they walk. It’s such a shame so many are made to feel like they have to walk and be like everyone else. This joy is infectious ❤️❤️❤️ Edit - as have a feeling I’ll get the “all the children skip comments” if this goes onto the explore page. So I’ll explain the reason for this video. Yes all children do skip and many skip all the time too. In fact when I was a kid I did ! I like how it felt. And when Hallie’s skips I skip with her because as an adult. It feels great to skip and I can get away with it because I’m keeping up with Hallie. 🤣 However back to my point. Many autistic children skip…. Jump, flap, Mainly those who are sensory seekers, yes some autistic children don’t skip all the time too. But autistic children who skip, jump, flap, tip toe walk are trying to seek extra sensory input to their sensory system to help them feeling regulated. They need more proprioceptive feedback The proprioceptive system is located in our muscles and joints. It provides us with a sense of body awareness and detects/controls force and pressure And a lot of autistic adults don’t skip - probably because they got older and realised it’s not seen as a social norm for older kids to skip. So they stopped. Or they found a different way to regulate. Or they mask when they are out then find ways to regulate at home. So yes. I’m not saying all autistic people skip. But when autistic children are little. It’s a lot of them. And they do it all the time. Hallie always skips. Unless she gets overwhelmed and is laying in the floor. This could lead me on to another topic of autistic people finding balancing seeking input and resting to regulate very difficult. It usually to late when they realise.
