I thought a lot about how to say this - and decided to just show it. To be clear: I doubt any of these people have ever held a rope, raised an animal, or thought twice about the hands that coaxed their food out of the ground, but they sure do feel some way about me doing it. They’re telling on themselves. This is why minority communities have to keep to themselves. This is why kids don’t come back to the show ring. This is why traditions are lost to time. This is why it’s not that easy. Because these small-minded people can’t imagine a world where everyone who wants to do the work is welcome. Where the color of your skin proudly represents a rich and varied tradition, honed and handed down over generations. Where any kid, anywhere, can grow up to be a cowboy. They’d rather the western industries die than see them diversify, even if that means choking it themselves. That can be their cross to bear, but they won’t get far — and it won’t be mine. true to this not new to this #4H it always makes me laugh when people think I’m “in a phase”. like listen, maybe I am. but it’s been 17 years since my first 4-H meeting. maybe I just don’t know any other way. I’ve worn a lot of uniforms in my life, but there was no feeling like putting on my whites. happy to be part lf the program today as an adult volunteer, making sure I can give back everything I was offered. you never know when there’s a kid like you waiting. shoutout to the teachers, agents, advisors, and community educators who keep agriculture education alive in every community. there’s no me without mine, and everything I do today is supported by work she did. get your boots on, there’s work to do 🤠 #agriculture #4H #ffa #western
