We began our journey filled with hope, but was deeply impacted by the actions of one irresponsible owner whose two aggressive leashed Scottish terriers disrupted our lives in a way we could never have anticipated. Koda’s instinct to protect a neighbor child in that moment, while heroic, and I’m proud of. It also led to a trauma that now cloud his ability to function as a service dog. Watching him struggle with fear and reactivity is painful, especially knowing how close we were to building a powerful team. I hold onto hope for a miracle with a trainer that will allow us to work through his fears, but the weight of this disruption and the uncertainty of his future as my service dog is a constant ache in my heart.
