I’m asking him about a soccer game cause I saw him make a goal, and I’m asking him about the test that I helped him with that he did really well in. I’m asking him what PlayStation games he likes. The entire time, I’m building connection. Once the 10 minutes was up, I told him to go back in the pool and have fun. Well, I couldn’t get rid of him. He kept talking and talking. Why? Because I was building up his self esteem, he’s feeling good about himself. You deal with the bad behaviour, but you focus on the good kid. THAT is what leadership parenting is all about. How do I get a 3 year old to listen and behave, especially in public? Good question! You're not gonna like my answer. If you're expecting them to be especially good in public, that says to me that you expect them to have different personalities. They have to have the same personality everywhere. If they're good at home, they're gonna be good when you're out. You can’t let a lot go at home and then expect them to be on their good behaviour when you're out. Like I would never have said to my kids, we're going to a really fancy restaurant, you better be good. Why would I say that they were good at home? So don't expect them to have different personalities. If you want a three year old to listen to you, you gotta set yourself up as a leader. When your kids are ages 3 to 12, you’re at the height of your leadership power. Under the age of 3, they’re just nuts anyway, and they’re just too little. And then 13 and up, you want them to be more their own leaders, you’re there for backup as the big leader, but you want them to manage the small stuff, you’re just there for the big stuff. But from the age of 3 to 12 years old, your children’s behaviour is (almost) 100% a direct result of your parenting. Looking for the first step to start parenting as a calm leader today? I highly recommend starting a toy rotation system right from day one. Basically you rotate their toys. They only have about 5 toys out at any given time, but don't put away the big stuff. Don't put away the their nurturing stuff like their favourite plushie that they like to go to bed with. And don't put away most of their books. But for the most part, only have a few toys out at any given time, maybe once a week, you pack them all up and bring out 5 different ones. They'll look at them like they're new. It's not that they haven't seen them before cause you're just rotating them all the time, but they'll look at them, and they'll play often a little bit differently with them. If they haven't seen that toy for a few months, they're a few months older, they might play with it differently. It stops them from being overstimulated and it teaches them how to focus. If there's too much around, they don't learn how to focus. Also, it keeps your house a lot cleaner. And when you're teaching your kids how to clean up after themselves, it's like five toys get put away. Have parenting questions? I’m offering FREE live Q&A’s on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm PT on Facebook and YouTube, 5:00 pm PT on Instagram and YouTube, and 5:30 pm PT on TikTok and YouTube … I’d love to see you there! ` ` ` ` #ToyRotation #ToyRotationSystem #ParentCoaching #ParentingSupport #PositiveParenting #ParentingSkills #EmpoweredParents #EffectiveParenting #ParentingJourney #ParentingWisdom #ParentingSolutions #ParentingGoals #ParentingAdvice #MindfulParenting #ParentingCommunity #ParentingInspiration #ParentingResources #ParentingEmpowerment #ConfidentParenting

Any tips on how to raise kids with a backbone, not being afraid to speak? I would say teaching your kids to be problem solvers. Like if I came to my mom and I said, Mommy, what should I do? She would go, you’re a smart girl, you can figure it out. And then we talked about it. I always thought I was solving all my own problems, but she was guiding me along the way. You don’t go in and save the day all the time. You’re a leader, so they know you bring out the best in them. That tends to raise their self esteem, which raises their confidence and their ability to speak up for themselves. Looking for the first step to start parenting as a calm leader today? So there's always two consequences on the BratBusters Behaviour Board. A positive action (so like sweeping the floor) and a negative deprivation (like media blackout) So they break a rule and you say, okay, you broke the rule, here's the consequence, you have to (as an example) sweep the kitchen floor within 10 minutes of being asked to do so. Always put a time limit on it. So when that 10 minutes is up, and if the first consequence isn’t complete, you go to the second consequence, which as an example may be media blackout. How to avoid school morning chaos. It’s all about structure and routine. Also using incentive. To clarify, incentives are not bribes. The difference is a bribe is when they’re doing something bad and you bribe them to get them to stop. With a bribe,, you’re actually rewarding that bad behaviour. But an incentive is they get something they like when they do what they need to do. Having an incentive is not a bad thing to do. We all work for incentive. We work for a paycheck. There’s nothing wrong with working to get what you want. My kids learn from a very really little age, you gotta do what you need to do before you can do what you want to do. They understood accountability and you have to work for what you want. Have parenting questions? I feel I’m a leader with my four year old but still often screams at me or hits me. That to me would say you’re not a leader, because by that age, they only do what works. That means it must work. It must get you upset. Leaders don’t get upset. For example, if they had hit me, I would calmly say I didn’t like that, and there’s going to be a consequence. They move away from what doesn’t work and they move into what does. They’re extremely adaptable. Keep in mind leadership parenting is something you can learn, it’s a skill anyone can learn. I have a 7-year-old son who has a hard time losing games. That says to me that he’s a right fighter. That means that losing is something to be ashamed of in his eyes. My mom used to always say to me, you’re such a good sport. And she said that to my brother too. I never quite understood why she was so proud of that. I used to think, what, what does that mean? I didn’t get it. What’s a good sport? What’s a bad sport? But as I grew up I understood that my brother and I both played to win, but if we don’t win, it doesn’t mean anything to us. Like losing is fine too, as long as we did our best. Mom used to focus on how well we played, not whether or not we won or lost. So you play to win, but you don’t care if you win, if that makes any sense. Like it’s not a big deal if you lose. There was no shame in losing. ` ` ` #ParentingResources #ParentingEmpowerment #ConfidentParenting

If I haven’t been a leader, my child is seven, if I start now, can it work? Most definitely. I get a lot of clients with teenagers, so seven is still really little. You’re at the height of your leadership skills from 3 to 12 years old. That’s why my boot camp course is 3 to 12 years old. When you’re a leader, they want to please you. It’s an instinct they need, crave and want a leader, cause they’re really little. By teenagers, it changes. They want to be more their own leaders. You take a back seat, and you’re just there for the bigger stuff. Looking for the first step to start parenting as a calm leader today? What are some ways to start becoming a leader with teenagers? You need to make amends first. So if you’ve been yelling at them or doing everything wrong or whatever, you don’t feel like you’ve been a very good parent, I would say something like, look, we got this new accountability chart (which is my free behaviour board linked in my bio) and you say you’ve got this cause we want to be a better parent. Make their rules something really mundane, something that you’ve never argued over. It’s not a big deal. Something like, put your dirty clothes in the hamper and nowhere else. And then you say to them, what do you want from me? And then have fun with the consequences. So you go back and forth. Are you ready to start parenting as a calm leader today? How do I get my 7-year-old to stop screaming and throwing tantrums? Set yourself up as a leader, and that generally doesn’t happen. Usually a tantrum stops at about three to four-years-old. When you’re a leader, it just tends to calm them down, because past the age of 4 they only do what works. So in this situation, it seems like the tantrums must be working. Remember, it’s all about meeting their needs, and managing their wants. That’s part of leadership. Looking for the first step to start parenting as a calm leader today? What does it look like to be a parenting leader? Have you ever looked up to anyone, like a teacher that you just idolize or a really good sports coach. They make you feel great. They get the best out of you. Would you ever be rude to that person? That’s what this is like. Leaders are friends with kids, but you have rules, like a coach has rules, a teacher has rules, but someone like a mentor, someone that they look up to, that’s your role. Your role isn’t to be a dictator. You don’t want obedient soldiers, who would want that? You want to relax and have fun with your kids. . That’s what calm leadership parenting is all about. How does the BratBusters Behaviour Board work? There’s a rule and a consequence for everyone in the family. And everyone has something different, unless the kids are about the same age, it can have the same rule for all three kids, or if both parents yell then it can be no yelling for both. But basically everyone has their own individual or individualized personalized rule, and then they also have a consequence. But the kids have two consequences; a positive action and then a negative deprivation. The reason why you don’t have two is because you know you will do your consequence, so you only need one. With the kids, you always start with the positive action. They do something bad, you want them to replace it with something good. If they won’t do that, then fine. Then you resort to the negative deprivation, which can be something like a 24-hour media blackout. It’s better to make things escalate than to try and avoid that. What I mean is don’t be afraid of a fit scene or a tantrum, because if you are, they’re in charge, guaranteed they’re in charge. Looking for the first step to start parenting as a calm leader today? What’s your best advice for a 4 year old adjusting to a new sibling? To be honest, it’s very hard to teach a young child that there’s gonna be a new baby coming along who stinks, screams all the time, takes mom and dad away from them. I don’t really think you can help them adjust. I think it just takes time. Maybe you can get them a little doll or something or teddy bear, and they can help, you know, all that stuff. But basically it’s a transition time. Children don’t always do well with transitions, but, um yeah, it’s just a time. Have parenting questions? Have parenting questions?
